About

NAARM/MELBOURNE

Nick Finch is a Naarm/Melbourne-based multi-instrumentalist, music producer, songwriter, composer and DJ, who has been working in music for over 20 years.

He is a founding member of Cash Savage & The Last Drinks, where his role is currently bass player, band manager and studio producer. Most recently he has been collaborating with Mutti Mutti, Yorta Yorta, Nari Nari songman Uncle Kutcha Edwards — re-interpreting Uncle Kutcha's music with the sonic intensity of The Last Drinks, and performing the reimagined songs live with Uncle Kutcha fronting the band. Nick also performs regularly, on bass, keys or guitar, with Georgia Knight, Blake Scott, Kate Alexander, Joshua Seymour and VIOLENCE.

In 2008 he founded and fronted Melbourne band Graveyard Train, which rose to global underground success, playing festivals and selling out clubs worldwide until going on hiatus around 2015. Nick has always self-managed his projects — from Graveyard Train through to Cash Savage & The Last Drinks — with a strong DIY approach to navigating the pitfalls of the music industry. In 2012 he co-founded the independent record label Black Hat Rackets.

Alongside performing, Nick regularly works as a studio producer, engineer and mix engineer, collaborating regularly with a wide range of Australian artists. Much of this recorded work has drawn critical and industry acclaim — most recently winning Music Victoria's Album of the Year in 2023 alongside an ARIA nomination and several Australian Music Prize nominations, plus a nomination for Best Live Bass Player at the 2023 National Live Music Awards.

In 2024, Nick and his long term collaborator Cash Savage co-founded Low & Tight, a music promotion social enterprise dedicated to combatting the growing influence of international big business in the local live music industry, and redirecting money back to local musicians and the local music community.

Nick holds an Honours degree in Philosophy from the University of Melbourne, and is currently writing his first book on the intersection of capitalism and contemporary music.
